Heyyyyyy Fam,
Turning 45 has been a powerful season of reflection and recompense for me, and it’s shown me something important: sometimes, we must release what no longer serves us to embrace the blessings we've been praying for.
Many look at my journey and assume it's been luck, but it’s been God’s grace and a lot of hard work, letting go, and courage. I want to share what I'm learning in this season and ask you an essential question:
What do you need to release so you can step into all that God has for you?
Let’s look at what it takes to recognize when it's time to move on and experience the blessings from trusting God’s timing.
Recognizing the Brook Has Dried Up
God often gives us signs that it’s time to leave a situation, relationship, or mindset behind. But when we’ve stayed too long, it becomes easy to miss the signs.
In the story of Elijah, God provided water from a brook, but when the brook dried up, it was time for him to leave (1 Kings 17:7-9). If Elijah had stayed, he would’ve missed God’s provision in the next place.
Here are some signs you may have stayed too long:
- You Feel Spiritually Stagnant: You’re no longer growing in your current situation.
- Opportunities Seem Blocked: Doors you thought would open stay closed.
- You Experience a Sense of Restlessness: It feels like something in you knows it's time for change.
"Some time later the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land." — 1 Kings 17:7
What to Release to Make Room for God’s Promises
Moving forward often requires releasing things that no longer align with God’s plan.
Here’s what I’m letting go of this season and what you might consider releasing:
- Fear of the Unknown: When God calls us to move forward, it often requires stepping into the unfamiliar.
- Relationships That Hold You Back: If people aren’t supporting your growth, it may be time to let go.
- Old Mindsets: Releasing limiting beliefs about yourself and God’s promises.
- Comfort Zones: True growth happens outside of what feels safe.
Reflection: What do you need to release to make room for what you’ve prayed for?
Taking the First Step Forward
If you recognize the signs and feel called to move on, here’s a powerful first step:
Seek God’s Guidance. Like Elijah, who moved when God instructed him, we must also trust God to guide our steps.
Begin with prayer, ask for wisdom, and surround yourself with people who will support your journey.
Scripture Reference:
"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."— Jeremiah 29:11
What Happens if You Stay Too Long?
When we stay where we no longer belong, we risk missing out on God’s provision and purpose. Staying too long can lead to:
- Stagnation: You stop growing spiritually, emotionally, and mentally.
- Unmet Needs: When the brook dried up, so did God’s provision for that place. If Elijah had stayed, he would’ve suffered.
- Missed Opportunities: By clinging to what’s familiar, you may miss out on new blessings and opportunities God has for you.
Holding on when the season has ended can keep you from the very things you’ve prayed for.
I encourage you to take a bold step toward your purpose. Identify what no longer aligns with God’s plan for your life, and have the courage to release it.
God has blessings waiting, but it takes obedience and faith to step forward. Just as I’ve paved my path, I’m here to guide you so your journey can be more fruitful and less turbulent.
